What is AHCCCS?
AHCCCS is Arizona’s Medicaid program, which uses federal government funds to provide health care services, including dental services, as Medicaid dental benefits, to eligible patients.
AHCCCS engages health insurers, like Arizona Complete Health, to issue health insurance policies to Medicaid patients. The insurance company you choose becomes your Dental Home under AHCCCS for Medicaid dental coverage.
What Dental Services Does AHCCCS Cover?
For children under 21, AHCCCS and its insurers provide dental benefits through recognized dental organizations, including our dental care practice. Covered dental services under AHCCCS include:
- Dental examination
- Dental cleaning
- Fillings for cavities
- X-rays to screen for dental problems
- Application of fluoride
- Dental sealants
- Emergency dental services
Children covered by AHCCCS do not need a referral to see one of our dentists for a dental procedure, including cleanings.
Adult Dental Coverage Under AHCCCS
AHCCCS also covers emergency dental care for adults 21 years and older, but these services do not include dental cleanings.
